The Master Slave
by Terri King on Dec.02, 2008, under Uncategorized
By the standards of raw strength and power, the body is a slave to the mind.
It moves, breathes, acts and reacts on command; be it consciously or subconsciously.
In what fashion and to what degree is all a direct result of the thoughts that dominate our mind.
But, what happens when we allow the slave to rule the master?
There’s a hierarchical breakdown. The chain of command is broken, ultimately resulting in insubordination.
Maybe you’re saying, “Hey, this is like the fall of the Roman Empire. How does this happen to a powerhouse like the mind?”
I suggest, like the fall of the Roman Empire, it happens gradually over time.
If you and I belly up to the world’s table day after day we find a feast catered to the body, complete with unwholesome foods, destructive conversation, impulse buying, and instant gratification to name a few.
If we are to keep the power of our lives in competent hands we must first feed the mind/spirit all that is just, healthy and beautiful and let the mind/spirit feed the body.

A Short Trip
by Terri King on Nov.25, 2008, under Uncategorized
Holidays already? This year has been challenging for most of us. But still, where did it go?
Life truly is just a vapor that appears for a while and is gone.
It’s so easy to fill the space of time in our lives with minutiae.
Time seems to be like money in that if it doesn’t have a specific purpose it just goes away.
Let’s seek out the good things in life and give them more room to make great memories for us.
Time is never wasted when you’re in search of a good thing.
After all, it is the limiting factor in life, and the most unforgiving.
There’s only so much of it and when it’s gone there’s no getting it back.
No matter how long you live it’s really just a short trip.
I’m not going to tell you how to live, just to live and live fully.

Say Your Prayers
by Terri King on Nov.18, 2008, under Uncategorized
By now we all know to get what you want you gotta know what you want. And it’s true.
Really hashing that out for every aspect of your life can be a challenge, but worth it.
Okay, let’s say you do. You got all worked out , for today, because plans do change.
If you don’t write it down somewhere, that’s the worst. If you write it down but you never look at it again, well, that’s a little better but not much. You gotta write it down and refer to it often.
I have recently arranged the statement of my major purpose into a prayer.
I find it exponentially more powerful and I get the added bonus of the opportunity to be thankful for all that I already have.
That makes me feel hopeful and elevates my spirit.
Give it a try and don’t forget to say your prayers.

Focal Shift
by Terri King on Nov.11, 2008, under Uncategorized
Veteran’s Day is a time to honor those who have given of themselves for the sake of others, for their country, for freedom’s glory.
It reminds me that in these times of trouble, a great way to curb negativity and despair is to take the focus off you and give something to someone else.
It’s natural when we get in trouble to withdraw into ourselves. I must say, that’s exactly what I have done. Just ask my friends and family.
Not that this is so bad, but I was talking to another business owner earlier today and I realized giving her an ear and trying to encourage her gave me a good feeling.
We really do need each other and I appreciate all of you.
Thank a veteran today and ask that person next to you how they are and if you can do anything to help them. The reward may be yours.

Hail to the King?

So, America votes for change. I couldn’t be happier if it’s for the right kind of change that originates in the right place.
What do you mean, you say. I know our country is in a mess with 2 wars, economic woes, a national deficit of nearly $1 trillion, and international relationships that are fragile at best.
Do we need change? Absolutely. But let me encourage you to protect and defend your individuality, your freedoms, and your independence by committing yourself to the change that is necessary to move the world into a better place.
The “arc of history” and the “hope of a better day” appropriately lies in each one of us and it is ours to claim as citizens of a free country for ourselves, our families, our communities, and our world.
Free men and women, do not look to a single figure in a powerful position to right the wrongs, to cure the ills, to “get you there”. The power for enduring change of the people and for the people must be by the people.
I’ll start with me. You start with you. And together we will revive the pride of the American spirit and keep our country free.
I have no party affiliation. I love America. I love to live my life to the dictates of my own heart. To keep doing that, we, as individuals, must take responsibility for the change that needs to come.
America does not need a King. America needs its people.
May God bless the new administration for the sake of the people.

Where is Opportunity Hiding?
by Terri King on Oct.27, 2008, under Uncategorized
I’ve heard it said, there’s opportunity in every market, when it’s up and when it’s down.
Well, I don’t have to tell you it’s down.
But where’s the opportunity in this market? I don’t know.
Nevertheless, allow me to raise your awareness that it’s said there is some, somewhere out there.
If we keep our minds open and clear per chance it will reveal itself to us.
I don’t know about you, but a good opportunity in a bad market would be just what I need to lift my spirits.

When Things Change
by Terri King on Oct.23, 2008, under Uncategorized
Throughout life there are moments when things just take a turn, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse.
You think you got it all figured out. You know exactly where you’re going, and then suddenly, things change.
Why? We don’t always know why, but it is a characteristic of life.
All I know to do is: evaluate the change for what it is, adjust your plans as needed, and play the hand you’re dealt.
Whether it’s career change, financial change, or personal change, it’s how you choose to look at it that will decide that it can be for the better.

Breaking Free
by Terri King on Oct.13, 2008, under Uncategorized
This morning, I saw what a beautiful day it was shaping up to be and decided to pack up the computer, shut the office down, and take myself on a motorcycle ride.
Wow. What a stress relief it was to just do something easy and fun. I rode to Burnsville and just laid down on the square and looked at the sky and felt the sunshine warm my face.
Sometimes you just gotta break free from the expected, from the routine. That’s when the creative juices start to flow again and faith can be renewed.
Maybe you don’t ride a motorcycle but I bet you do something that gives you a release. Go ahead and make the time to do that this week.
Don’t let stress get the upper hand.
Live, for God’s sake, live!!

Believe in Victory
by Terri King on Oct.07, 2008, under Uncategorized
This is a time when we are all faced with a variety of challenges. Lost jobs, foreclosure, today’s cash flow, tomorrow’s retirement, recession, etc.
Today, I just want to send a word of encouragement to strengthen my friends who may be, like me, facing difficult days ahead and some tough decisions.
Say to yourself, “ I believe in victory.” “ I believe in victory over____________.”(Whatever your personal challenge might be.)
Use these positive words of affirmation anytime you feel the pressures of the obstacles you face.
You might be surprised how spiritually empowering they can be.

Capitalism is What’s At Stake Here.
by Terri King on Sep.30, 2008, under Uncategorized
Where’s the “can do” attitude that built this country. We need an over haul of the American Spirit, in my opinion.
I know the economic situation is complicated and there is no easy solution, but the thought of more and more regulation by the government really makes me uncomfortable.
Capitalism isn’t perfect, but I love it. I love the freedom to create opportunity, work on my own ideas, build my own business, assume the risks and reap the rewards. And if I fail, I pay the price for playing the game. That’s the natural cycle of capitalism, albeit painful at the moment.
We are headed for Socialism at the rate we are going. If that’s what you want, fine, but personally, I love the entrepreneurial spirit that made this country the wealthiest nation in the world.
I pray that we don’t, for some sense of false security, end up killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
This is still the greatest country to live in, so whether you’re Democrat or Republican, Socialist or Capitalist, the most important thing to do is to get involved and make a positive difference wherever you are.
Respectfully yours.
